Columbus FEMA Internment Camp - Part 2, The Actual Camp

I was hesitant to post this too soon, but now seems to be the time. Part of iarnuocon's article was true. After reading the numerous articles on the FEMA internment camps, I decided to do some research of my own. I found many lists of the these camps, or rather, I found one list reposted all over the internet. It was rather educating watching how the list changed over time. In the earliest version I could find, Ohio was listed as having three camps: "Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus - FEMA detention facilities." Somewhere along the line, someone added Camp Perry to the list, which is the only Ohio camp for which any information exists. Having been to Camp Perry in the company of many, many heavily armed Patriots, I knew what it looked like, so I focused my search on the other three. Eventually, I found one who posted a map to the Columbus FEMA camp. AHA! Now, we're getting somewhere. So, I print off the map, go grab the camera, and off I go.

We drove past several places that looked more like those in other articles to get to the specified site, but we did eventually find it. It's cleverly disguised to look like a typical upscale Democrat home, but I had the evidence I'd printed off and we were not fooled. As we circled the whole complex shooting pictures the whole way, a few neighbors happened by. They clearly thought we were nuts, but they didn't know what we know. It was obvious a lot of work had gone into this place. Even the fence and the guard dog were disguised to appear completely innocent. Just as we'd finished documenting the place and were about to drive away, someone in an official-looking vehicle pulled up but he was too late.

Now, that having been said, I am not, as far as I know, a part of the Drollhouse. This article was not written as a prank or as a refutation of any other article. I wrote this to illustrate the need for some degree of skepticism in our work. The list of camps that I found was duplicated almost verbatim in literally hundreds of places all over the web, with little or no investigation on the part of it's posters. One of the most common complaints in the uproar over the Drollhouse prank was that it damages the credibility of the Vine as a whole. I would propose instead that those who post on the internet have already done a good job of destroying credibility. How many times have we seen something along the lines of "It has to be true; I read it on the internet"? All I'm saying is, we need to make an effort to ensure that what we're writing as news is in fact accurate.

Do I believe our government is capable of building concentration camps and filling them with Americans. Absolutely. They've done it before, and I have no doubt they'll do it again. Are they currently building such camps in preparation for some upcoming need? Probably. I find it highly unlikely that they've passed the legislation they have and not have taken steps to prepare for its eventual implementation. The laws themselves should be enough to convince us that we need to be making our own preparations. Do they have a camp prepared and waiting for me in Ohio? I don't know, but I've found no evidence of one yet.

(In an intriguing twist sure to fuel the conspiracy discussions, the map that finally led me to "Columbus's camp" isn't showing up any more.)

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Nicely written. No doubt you'll now be down on the list as a Newsvine "troublemaker" with an "attitude problem."

This site reproduces the text of what you found in your "list" of purported sites: OHIO Camp Perry - Site renovated; once used as a POW camp to house German and Italian prisoners of WWII. Some tar paper covered huts built for housing these prisoners are still standing. Recently, the construction of multiple 200-man barracks have replaced most of the huts. Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus - FEMA detention facilities. Data needed. Lima - FEMA detention facility. Another facility located in/near old stone quarry near Interstate 75. Railroad access to property, fences etc.

The Google Map link is here. The full Google Map list of "FEMA Camps" is here.

HAHa! That's awesome! Looks like someone did some judicious pruning of the first link, including removal of the site we visited, and the second link no longer goes to "user generated content", nor is there a link available for the "user generated content."

Maybe someone read our articles?

OK, try this:

Go to Google Maps
In the search field, typ "FEMA concentration camps ohio"
Under "Restrict result to" select "user-generated content"
The site we visited showed up for me as site "B"
click here to see a screen shot.

I'm not going to go into any tirades here. But let me ask Griff69 this:

Is this the type of article you wish to be associated with at Newsvine? How about some real news, perhaps something from your local area, or your opinion on a subject of interest?

As opposed to what? Perhaps an article claiming that these camps exist with supporting 'evidence' of a satellite photo of a school or office park, a photo of rolling stock that is nothing more that an articulated car carrier, a photo of a real prison and other easily debunked 'facts'.

Newsvine is big enough for these conspiracy theories, satire that points to the huge flaws in these theories and other light hearted material. If you don't like Griff69's contributions, there is plenty of other material to choose from.

He should probably post an article about a statue on Mars. That'd increase the credibility of Newsvine tremendously!

How about you tend your column and let Griff tend his?

Sure, here's an opinion: the myriad of places that list "Columbus FEMA camp" as one of the camps we've been discussing in four different articles were posted by those too lazy to go check for themselves.

Although sure I agree, people by nature tend to exaggerate a little bit, even on occasion a lot, but never the less this particular message is really important and needs to make it's rounds.

I'm not quite sure what you are doing here. My first impression is that you are part of some organized disinformation campaign, but who knows? For whatever reason you want to slow this train down.

Aside from outright fiction that is always lingering out there in cyberspace, in any given situation two different people addressing the same account will almost certainly give two different takes on it. In other circumstances where government corruption is being outted for instance, misinformation is intentionally put out there by them hoping to make it appear as though a bunch of crackpots made it all up.

You will find this type of really annoying obstacle attached to just about every single important subject matter found on the web where the emerging fascism is concerned. This crazy government of ours actually has an agency that does nothing but provide this junk.

Based on your writing I don't take you for a fool. I am convinced you are more than aware how this works. Being that you do, one then has to wonder are you intending to discredit the legitimate claims of these FEMA camps using one small island of misinformation that you discovered among the great sea of factually accurate and relevant information on the topic?

The big question I guess is, are you doing this for personal reasons or is there a social or political agenda? Either way I fear that by you focusing so heavily on the few inaccuracies you found instead of the highlighting the factually accurate portions that you know to be true detracts from what is really a legitimate warning. I believe that although perhaps well intended, by doing this the way you have you have done far more damage than good.

Oh, holy mother of God. Please.

one then has to wonder are you intending to discredit the legitimate claims of these FEMA camps using one small island of example of misinformation that you discovered among the great sea of factually accurate and relevant speculation in which float tiny fragments of factual information on the topic?

    There. Fixed that for you.

Your problem is that you present these things as false dilemmas-- either Griff (or myself) is seeking to discredit "fact" based on a social agenda, or we do so based on a political agenda. It takes little wit to see that this begs the question. Your assumption is that there is a "great sea" of fact that proves FEMA internment camps are a widespread phenomenon, and that they are there for the express intent of caging dissidents.

You see two different takes, and conclude that one or the other must be the truth. I see the great sea of speculation and seek to separate the wheat from the chaff. I suspect Griff does the same.

How interesting that you would conclude such a strategy does more harm than good. One is left to wonder who suffers the harm. People encouraged to investigate for themselves? Or individuals who make a market out of selling fiction for fact?

And which of those to groups do YOU fall into?
